3D on a website and AR try-on are not the same thing

In the evening a workshop sends a photo of a table from one angle: “how do the legs actually attach?” Next door, a clinic asks to “put an implant in someone’s mouth right on the website”. Both say they need 3D. Below is a cube you can spin, and an honest split: the window on the page and the phone camera live in different quotes.

The word “3D” sounds confident on a call. In fact two different requests hide behind it. First: a person wants to turn the product and see the back, the joint, the thickness — without leaving the page. Second: they want to point a camera at their table and see whether the cabinet fits between the radiator and the door. The first works on a computer. The second almost always asks for a phone. We do not sell the magic of augmented reality. We embed a module in the same chain as a calculator: a page, a clear gesture, a lead.

Spin the cube. There is no camera.

This is a training model — not an IKEA catalogue and not your product. The gesture is the same as on a product card: drag with a mouse or a finger, the cube turns. Below is the “10 thousand” path: a finished file in a window on the site, no camera. If the viewer loads, the GLB spins. While it loads, or if WebGL is in a mood, the same cube on CSS still turns.

Service details and the price ladder are on the page 3D and AR on a site. An upgrade of an already live site sits in the upgrade block on the homepage.

Why spin it if you already have a photo?

A photo answers one angle. A model answers “and from the back?”, “what profile does the leg have?”, “how does the lid open?”. The person does not guess from a highlight. They complete the shape themselves — and either write, or leave, already knowing it is the wrong size. We are not dragging invented conversion rates in here. The mechanic is simple: fewer holes in the picture — fewer empty questions for the manager at nine in the evening.

Google’s documentation for the model-viewer component shows glTF/GLB in ordinary modern browsers. That is the window on the page. The camera is a separate branch, not “tick a box and it all works on a laptop”.

Furniture: will it fit between the radiator and the door?

For a sofa or a shelf, spinning the model is useful in itself: upholstery, legs, the reverse side. The main fear is different — scale in my room. A window on the site is no longer enough.

IKEA split this into two gestures long ago. In 2017 the IKEA Place app put furniture “in your home” from a phone, to scale. Later IKEA Kreativ appeared: an Ingka note from February 2025 separately mentions both “spin it in 3D” and “see it in the space”. We are not IKEA partners and we do not copy their app. We take only the fork: turning the product and placing it in a room are not one action.

Rubik’s cube in a 3D window — square 3×3 faces, as on the training model

Spin it on the site

A window on the card. Mouse, finger, every face. No camera. That is a live-site upgrade: 10 or 25.

A phone over an oak table: the Rubik’s cube stands in frame as an ordinary cube, not a stretched tower

Place it in the room

You need a phone and a camera. On a computer you will more often be left with a picture like this. That is already the +40 path in a new project.

Looking in the room is already a camera

If you are on a phone and the “View in your room” button appears above the cube — that is the second branch. On iPhone, Safari opens Quick Look: Apple writes that the user places the model on a surface ARKit found. On Android, Google gives WebXR in Chrome or the Scene Viewer app; Scene Viewer needs a device with ARCore and Google Play services for AR. No services — you often stay in ordinary 3D, with no floor of the room.

From a laptop the button often simply does not show. That is not a broken article. That is how the web works: the camera and the floor of the room live in the phone. The picture below is a static mock, so you can see the gesture if AR on this device stays silent.

Mock: a smartphone over a wooden table, Rubik’s cube in the camera frame with equal edges
Not a live camera — a picture. Live try-on is on a phone, if the device can do Quick Look or Scene Viewer / WebXR.

Clinic: honest limits

Dentists and medical centres often sketch an “implant try-on in the mouth”. We do not promise that. A phone camera catches a table and a floor. It does not replace an X-ray, a cast or a conversation with a doctor. Office lighting, the angle, a trembling hand — that is enough for the picture to look convincing and still lie. For an anxious decision something else matters: who sees you, what the first visit includes, whether there is a Saturday slot. That is in the pieces on why a dental clinic needs a website and a medical clinic.

If the clinic still needs a model, let it be a machine, a chair or a aligner box in the page window. The person spun it and booked. They did not “put a jaw in the browser”.

Packaging, display, product

A box with a flap, a bottle, display glass, a lamp: here 3D on the page often closes the job without a camera. You see how the lid opens, what profile the edge has, where the logo looks. “Put it on my shelf” makes sense when everyone’s shelf is different and size is the main fear. Otherwise a window and a normal lead are enough. Which button to put after that window — in the piece on CTA, quiz, calculator or manager.

What it costs — without mixing the ladder

The ladder is short. We do not mix it.

Tilda, WordPress, Bitrix or your own code. We look at the source first, then quote. We do not invent discounts. A guide sits in the calculator.

This is a module, not a separate company

We are not an “AR studio”. We assemble digitalisation under one roof: a page, a quote, a lead, and if needed a window with a model. 3D does not replace a calculator and does not cure chaos in WhatsApp. First the chain, then the effect. How we say that without “the cloud” — in the article what business digitalisation actually means.

Almost nobody orders a separate “toy for wow”. Usually they ask for one window on the product card. If without a camera the person already understands the product — we stop there.

FAQ

How does 3D on a website differ from AR try-on?

3D is a window on the page; you spin it without a camera. AR is a phone camera, a model on a table or a floor. Different devices, different sums.

Can I open try-on from a computer?

Usually no. The model in the window — yes. The floor of the room — on a phone, if the device can do Quick Look or Scene Viewer / WebXR.

Does a clinic need try-on “in the mouth”?

As medical precision — no. For a booking, the doctor, what the visit includes and a slot in the diary matter more.

What is in 10 / 25 / +40?

10 — a finished file in the browser, no camera. 25 — we prepare the model and embed it, no camera, from 5 days. +40 — on a new project: model, embedding and try-on. There is no 3D in 270 thousand.

Send a photo of the product or a GLB file — we will say whether a window on the page is enough, or you already need a camera. No theatre about an implant in the browser.
